The Darién Gap Cohort is an initiative tracking approximately 5000 people in the Darién region to assess the impact of climate change and the effects of living near forests on chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, kidney diseases, diabetes, and exposure to emerging pathogens. The cohort involves annual clinical evaluations and continuous monitoring of febrile illnesses throughout the year, providing diagnosis and clinical care to participants using mobile apps and technology. Additionally, once cases of emerging viruses are identified, cluster and contact investigations are activated using a One Health strategy to determine reservoirs and vectors.
