Carson Center for Health and Ecosystem Research

The Carson Center is a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to research and education to address emerging diseases, as well as challenges related to climate change and the health of the planet. Named in honor of pioneering scientist Rachel Carson, who highlighted the environmental impacts of human activities, the Carson Center focuses on developing solutions through an interdisciplinary approach that embraces the principles of one health and planetary health.

The One Health concept recognizes the interconnectedness between human, animal and environmental health, promoting collaborations among diverse fields to address problems in a holistic manner. On the other hand, Planetary Health focuses on understanding and mitigating the global impacts of climate change and other human activities on the health of ecosystems and populations. With these perspectives, the Carson Center works to advance scientific understanding and promote policies that protect the health of both humans and ecosystems in an interconnected and changing world.

Inspired by the groundbreaking work of scientist Rachel Carson, the vision emerged to create a research center focused on environmental studies and emerging infectious diseases. This hub of research and education unites a passion for conservation, public health, and innovative solutions to address past, present and future challenges.

“The goal of science is to discover and illuminate the truth” Rachel Carson
