Luis Felipe Rivera
M.D.
I am Dr. Luis Felipe Rivera, a general practitioner and primary healthcare provider. I graduated from the Faculty of Health Sciences Dr. William C. Gorgas at the Universidad Latina de Panamá in 2019. I completed my medical internship at Santo Tomás Hospital in Panama City and later at Dr. Cecilio A. Castillero Regional Hospital in Chitré, Herrera, in 2021.
Upon finishing my internship, I joined the research group on Dynamics of Emerging Viral Diseases led by Dr. Jean-Paul Carrera at the Gorgas Memorial Institute for Health Studies. Here, I engage in both clinical and investigative work in tropical medicine, with a primary focus on arboviruses and viruses causing encephalitis in humans. My interests lie in the clinical manifestations of arboviruses, predictors of severity in alphavirus encephalitis, outbreak investigation, and community medicine.
