Xacdiel Rodríguez
BSc.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a specialization in microbiology and parasitology. Currently, I work in the Emerging Disease Dynamics group at ICGES and i´m part of the diploma program on emerging and neglected zoonotic diseases with a comprehensive health approach. I am interested in studying viral ecoepidemiology to understand transmission cycles and elucidate the vectors and reservoirs that maintain the circulation of arthropod-borne viruses in the environment. I study how the impact of human anthropogenic activities on the environment and climate change affects distribution and circulation patterns, thus favoring the emergence and re-emergence of different arboviruses.

The work I currently perform has two main components: fieldwork involving sampling and collecting epidemiological data from humans, wildlife, and mosquitoes, and laboratory work involving sample processing and analysis using serological and molecular techniques. In the future, I would like to pursue postgraduate studies in areas related to my current work to deepen my understanding and acquire new knowledge that will enable me to make significant contributions to the country in the field of virology.
